February 14th, 2025 – Shkoon introduces ‘Jadal’, the next chapter of their musical evolution for their upcoming project ‘Greater Than One’. With their signature blend of deep house, downbeat, and oriental melodies, the duo crafts a sound that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. Echoing the meaning of Jadal, the track immerses listeners in a journey of emotional depth, intertwining themes of discord, distance, and the pursuit of understanding.
Opening the release, 'Jadal’ introduces a melodic techno foundation, weaving groovy synths and deep basslines into a hypnotic soundscape. A delicate yet powerful arrangement of cascading violins and gradual piano progressions set the tone, leading listeners into the track’s immersive atmosphere. As the composition unfolds, the transcendent sounds of the oud blend effortlessly with Shkoon’s ethereal Arabic vocals, delivering reminiscent lyrics that speak to loss, connection, and the resilience of the human spirit.
A balance of melancholy and hope, Jadal mirrors the emotional struggle of whether to engage in or withdraw from conflict. Its name, meaning "debate" or "discussion," reflects the emotional weight of witnessing turmoil, balancing sorrow, separation, and a hopeful search for understanding. This tension plays out in the track’s evolving structure, where moments of stillness give way to pulsating energy, culminating in an experience that is both introspective and uplifting. With its calming essence and sun-drenched groove, Jadal carries a distinct summer aura, inviting listeners to get lost in its layers and textures.
Since their debut, Shkoon has gained recognition for their unique ability to bridge traditional sounds with modern electronic music, solidifying their place in the global underground scene. Greater Than One is a reflection of that journey, an exploration of sound, emotion, and transformation that unites listeners across cultures and experiences. In troubled times, it serves as a call to come together, a reminder that we are not alone, and an invitation to reconnect with what it truly means to be human. Through four distinct tracks, each carrying its own story and energy, Shkoon delves into themes of connection and longing, weaving these emotions into their latest release, Jadal. More than just a song, Jadal invites listeners to reflect, connect, and embrace the feelings it evokes.

ABOUT Shkoon
Shkoon are Syrian/German duo who blend traditional Syrian folklore with downtempo electronica. They're the posterboys for the electronic scene in MENA (everyone knows them here) and equally sell-out shows in London, Paris and Germany. Quite unique. Gorgeous music aside, the story of how Ameen and Thorben met really peaks media interest. Ameen (Syrian) was an activist against the Syrian government, at his university. He was unfortunately put in prison for a month then once released, decided he had to leave Syria as it wasn't safe for him. He eventually arrived in Europe on a refugee boat and made his way to Germany. Thorben was living in a house-share at the time and decided to help Ameen until he found his feet. One night they started jamming and Shkoon was formed. Given what's happening in Syria right now (Assad's regime is now removed) this project is more relevant than ever. To this day, due to Ameen's 'refugee' status, he is still blacklisted in many countries
